If you’re just now turning 40, congratulations! You made it this far. But, there’s more to go and more living to do, as someone in their 60s or 70s will tell you.
The funny thing about turning 40 (which, by the way, I did a while back, which makes me experienced at being over 40) is that when you’re 39 turning 40 it seems so big. For some, it’s like, “omigod, my life is over.” But, remember when you hit 35 and you thought, “Oh…now I’m mid-thirties,” and suddenly you were so depressed. And then you hit 38 and now you were “late 30s,” and you felt like you were on a raft at Niagara Falls heading for the big drop?
The truth is, it’s really all relative. When you’re 50 you’ll look back at turning 40 as being so young. And when you’re 60 you’ll pine for 50. So, really, no matter your age, you’re the young hot thing of your future. So, if you’re turning 40 and are having a rather grumpy birthday, remember, aging is really all relative. Someday you’re going to pine for these days as much as you may be pining for your 30s. Don’t waste your time being depressed about it.
